Jeddah (Jahangir Khan) — A breast cancer awareness seminar focusing on prevention and early detection was held at Pakistan International School Aziziyah, Jeddah. The event drew a large number of women who showed keen interest in the topic.

The Chief Guest, Begum Khalid Majeed, wife of the Consul General of Pakistan in Jeddah, lauded the school administration for organizing a purposeful event dedicated to women’s health and wellbeing.

Principal Ateeq-ur-Rehman emphasized the vital role of women in national development, stating that a healthy mother is the foundation of a healthy society.

Addressing the seminar, Dr. Arshadullah Khan, a renowned Pakistani surgeon practicing in Saudi Arabia, highlighted that awareness is the most powerful tool in fighting breast cancer. He noted that one in every eight women in Pakistan is affected by the disease — the highest rate in South Asia. Timely diagnosis and proper treatment are crucial for improving outcomes, he said.

Dr. Khan advised women over 40 to conduct regular self-breast examinations and seek medical advice immediately if any abnormalities are detected. He added that although the risk increases with age, breast cancer can affect women of all ages, making early detection essential.

He further recommended annual mammography after age 40, and earlier screening — from age 30 — for women at high risk.

Participants praised the initiative, suggesting that such awareness programs should be held frequently to promote preventive health practices among women.

At the conclusion, Principal Ateeq-ur-Rehman presented a commemorative shield to Dr. Arshadullah Khan in appreciation of his valuable contribution and expressed gratitude for his efforts in raising awareness about women’s health.
