Jeddah: The United Journalists Forum Jeddah organized a one-day memorial cricket match to commemorate the 10th death anniversary of Pakistan’s legendary humanitarian Abdul Sattar Edhi. The event celebrated his lifelong dedication to humanity and social welfare. King Abdulaziz Medical City (KAMC) Cricket Club delivered an outstanding all-round performance to defeat the Journalists Cricket Club and lift the championship trophy.
The memorial match was organized to pay tribute to Abdul Sattar Edhi’s remarkable legacy of compassion, selflessness, and unconditional service to humanity. The event was attended by journalists, doctors, community leaders, and cricket enthusiasts.
The KAMC Cricket Club was led by renowned Consultant General and Surgical Oncology Surgeon Dr. Arshad Ullah Khan, while the Journalists Cricket Club was captained by senior journalist Jahangir Khan.
Batting first, the Journalists Cricket Club posted 98 runs, with Asif Qazi top-scoring with 32 runs. In reply, KAMC comfortably chased down the target with the loss of four wickets.
Outstanding performances for KAMC came from Dr. Saud Ghazi, Dr. Noorullah, Dr. Mursaleen, Dr. Farukh, Dr. Tariq, and Dr. Jibran, while captain Dr. Arshad Ullah Khan led his side brilliantly with excellent leadership and tactical planning.
The Journalists Cricket Club squad included Jahangir Khan, Raja Shoaib Altaf, Haji Usman, Muhammad Adil, Atif Ali, Fouad Swati, Hamza Swati, Muhammad Islam, Zubair Siddiqui, Fahad Hameed, and Asif Rafiq.
Speakers at the ceremony highlighted Abdul Sattar Edhi’s lifelong commitment to serving humanity regardless of religion, race, nationality, or social status, describing his legacy as an everlasting inspiration.
Chief Guest Haji Usman, a prominent businessman and social figure from Makkah, said that sports serve as a powerful platform to promote unity, brotherhood, and positive social values. He noted that organizing the memorial match was aimed at introducing Edhi’s humanitarian mission to younger generations and encouraging the spirit of community service.
The ceremony concluded with Haji Usman presenting the championship trophy to Dr. Arshad Ullah Khan, captain of the KAMC Cricket Club.
