Lahore – 09-September 2025 – Senior leader of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), Rana Sanaullah, has been elected as Senator from Punjab in the by-election held on Tuesday.
Polling for the Senate by-election took place in the Punjab Assembly, where, according to the Returning Officer, Rana Sanaullah secured victory on a general seat with the support of the ruling coalition. He received 250 votes, while one vote was declared invalid.
The seat had fallen vacant following the disqualification of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Ijaz Ahmad Chaudhry. His daughter, Salma Ijaz, was initially fielded as the PTI candidate; however, PTI later announced a boycott of the by-election and withdrew from the voting process.
Following the result, Rana Sanaullah’s election marks a significant addition to the PML-N’s strength in the Senate and further consolidates the ruling coalition’s position in the Upper House of Parliament.
